The Philadelphia Girls’ Rowing Club house is the first and oldest structure on historic Boat House Row. On January 28, 1860, an ordinance was passed by City Council approving a lot for the building of the club house. The flag was run up on February 27, 1861. Plans were drawn by William S. Andrews, architect member of the Philadelphia Skating and Humane Society and J. C. Sidney, city architect. The Philadelphia Girls’ Rowing Club purchased the building in 1962.
Philadelphia Girls’ Rowing Club is the oldest women’s rowing club, owned and operated by women, since 1938.
