Annual Events

In collaboration with the family, friends, and coaches of Bill Braxton, PGRC is proud to present the annual Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta. This autumn regatta honors Bill, a collegiate rower and Dad Vail champion who was killed in an auto accident after his sophomore year at Marietta College. The regatta helps fund two scholarships, awarded each year to outstanding high school senior rowers. Interested applicants can complete an online scholarship form

Join us for a celebration of the unique history of PGRC's boathouse and contribution to rowing! Proceeds from the event will benefit the club's Shore Her Up! campaign to preserve the house's architectural facade and rehabilitate the masonry structure to its original condition.

March 8, 2014: Extraordinary Gifts

On Saturday, March 8, Philadelphia Stories and PGRC hosted a delightful afternoon of food, drink, and entertainment to celebrate the release of “Extraordinary Gifts”, a book featuring art and writing inspired by the achievements of women from the Delaware Valley who have changed the world.  The women featured in this beautiful book include such women of note as Marian Anderson, Louisa May Alcott, Margaret Mead and rowing pioneer, Ruth Robinhold.

A percentage of proceeds from the event benefited the PGRC Preservation Campaign.


January 31, 2014: Strong Women Row to Win

On January 31st, PGRC hosted three women who together represent the history of international women’s competition:

Joanne Iverson:  A driving force behind the addition of women’s rowing to the Olympic Games – finally – in 1976.
Carol Bower: Member of the first U.S. Women’s eight to win Olympic gold in 1984.
Susan Francia: Two-time gold medalist in the eight in 2008 and 2012.

Joanne, Carol and Susan spoke about their experiences in advancing women's rowing competition, from women’s first participation in the Olympic Games to stellar successes as gold medalists. Their shared experience offered a unique and engaging perspective on the course of competitive rowers' training, qualifying and racing. Proceeds from the event benefited PGRC's Preservation Campaign.


June 2, 2012: 150th Anniversary of #14 Kelly Drive

PGRC recognized the 150th Anniversary of the clubhouse with a celebration on June 2, 2012. Special guests included many former rowers, as well as Mayor Michael Nutter.
